Swervedriver UK Tour

Reforming shoegazing giants Swervedriver have confirmed a new UK tour ahead of their appearance at an ATP event this December.

2009 has seen the return of shoegazing. Over in Brooklyn, groups such as Vivian Girls, Crystal Stilts and The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart have all released stunning albums with a new take on the noise pop legacy.

Here in the UK, the charts have been rocked by massive singles by the likes of Glasvegas, Friendly Fires and White Lies which all hint at an adolescence spent listening to My Bloody Valentine.

Original shoegazing pioneers Swervedriver reformed last year for a series of emotional shows. Now the former Creation Records mainstays are due to play a short British tour to prepare for their high profile slot at 'ATP: Nightmare Before Christmas'.

Emerging from an eight year hiatus last year, the band remain a potent live force. Speaking to the NME drummer Jez Hindmarsh revealed that the scale of their support on their reunion tour left them surprised.

"We played the Scala last year and it was way over-sold, with loads of people outside the venue listening through the fire doors while we were on," he explained. "So we really wanted to do another couple of London gigs for anyone who missed out, or was good enough to stand on the street in King's Cross for a few hours last year!"

This year's Nightmare Before Christmas event is curated by My Bloody Valentine, and contains a host of old friends of Swervedriver. Fellow Creation veterans Primal Scream are in particular close to the shoegazing pioneers.

"We wanted to do it because pretty much every band or artist we've been compared to for the past 25-odd years is playing there, so we wanted to get up and do our stuff too," he said. "The Primals are playing as well, and they're great people – as well as being one serious motherfucker of a live band! So it'll be lovely to catch up with them over a small shandy or something."
