The team behind Summer Sundae Weekender have announced that the festival will take next year off.
Held at Leicester's De Montford Hall, Summer Sundae Weekender manages to conquer that difficult trick of being both family friendly and supporting new music. Set in the shadow of the historic Midlands landmark, the festival has grown to earn a national reputation with a series of varied, eclectic bills. Sadly, the event won't be back next year.
In a short statement this morning the Summer Sundae Weekender team confirmed that they intend to take 2013 off, although they insisted that a return in 2014 remained on the cards.
The statement in full:
"After much consideration we have decided it’s best for Summer Sundae Weekender to take a year off and as such there will be no Summer Sundae at De Montfort Hall in 2013."
"We have taken this decision against the backdrop of a very difficult year for festivals in 2012. The Olympics, the recession and the weather have created a perfect storm leaving many independent festivals struggling to survive. We feel it’s a good idea to take the next year to look at different models and fresh ideas to bring the festival back for 2014 and beyond".
"Meanwhile we wish De Montfort Hall a Happy 100th Birthday for 2013, and understand that they will be celebrating this in style next year. We hope to see you all again in 2014."
