Strokes Write New Material
Seminal New Yorkers return
One of the decade's most influential group's are close to returning with The Strokes apparently writing new material.
It has been almost four long years since the release of The Strokes' last album 'First Impressions Of Earth'. The group burst out of New York with a clutch of stunning songs, spawning a generation of preening imitators attempting to recreate their scuzzed up Big Apple vibe.
The band went on hiatus after guitarist Nick Valensi's partner gave birth to twins. In the meantime, numerous side projects have emerged with Albert Hammond Jr, Fabrizio Moretti and Nikolai Fraiture all releasing under different names.
Drummer Moretti was caught backstage after a gig with his spiky new wave project Little Joy, and revealed some of the parent band's plans to the BBC. "Julian has started writing and Nick has got some material as well," he said.
"We're the kind of band that it's not finished until everyone's in one room and everyone's got their parts perfectly. We're a very mechanical band."
As previously reported, The Strokes are set to reconvene in February for rehearsal sessions, and to possibly write some new material. It is not known when a new album can be expected.
