'Indie' is almost a dirty word in some circles.
Often viewed as a synonym for retro, old-fashioned or un-creative, certain elements of the indie sphere certainly don't do these preconceptions a disservice.
But then a band like My Sad Captains comes along to re-affirm your faith. Already two albums into their career, the band's third LP was record at Bella Union's own studio.
Mixed in Portland, Oregon the results are beautifully crafted, utterly bewitching and strange difficult to place.
Sure, those big 80s influences - The Smiths, The Cure - loom ominously, but what comes through most strongly is a band in charge of their own destination.
Out on March 17th, Bella Union decided to make the stream available to all as a preview.
