Stones Legend For In The City
Loog Oldham Hosts Music Event
Former Rolling Stones manager and boss of Immediate records Andrew Loog Oldham has broken his South American exile to host the second day of the In The City event (October 6th).
A boss of the nascent Stones, Loog Oldham carefully crafted a 'bad boy' image to the group that has stuck to this day. The young manager also produced their first two albums, before forming Immediate Records - perhaps the first important independent record label in the history of the UK. Of course, he would then go on to claim the credit for The Verve's 'Bittersweet Symphony' but we don't hold that against him.
Astonishingly, this is the 17th annual In The City festival and featured Andrew Loog Oldham chairing a debate dominated by some of the music industry's most important figures. Loog Oldham was able to contrast his role in the early 60s with that of a modern manager, while Sire records boss Seymour Stein recounted some tales from his own career.
Other guests on the panel included former New Order bassist Peter Hook, and the ever-outspoken Jon McClure from Reverend And The Makers.
In The City continues today (October 7th).
