Stars Pay Tribute To Rob Partridge

Marr, Burgess Salute A&R Man

Some of the music industry's top figures have been lining up to pay tribute to legendary PR Rob Partridge, who died last Wednesday (November 26th).

Beginning his career as a journalist Partridge became the head of press at Island Records, working closely with Bob Marley and signing Irish giants U2. In later life he would help found the Mercury music prize.

Island Records founder Chris Blackwell described him as "one of the most honourable men I have met in my life."

Johnny Marr also paid tribute saying that "Rob was a lovely guy, gentle and polite, but not above good devilish humour. He loved soulful music and working with soulful artists, because he was soulful himself."

Tom Waits also paid tribute, saying that "here on earth a very bright and warm light has gone out but there is a strange new bird in heaven...the Rob Partridge."

Rob Partridge died on November 26th of bowel cancer.
