St Vincent's Annie Clark has confirmed that a joint album with David Byrne is in the works.

First mooted over two years ago, a collaboration between Annie Clark and David Byrne has reared its head from time to time. Often dismissed as a rumour, the St Vincent singer recently revealed that not only have recording sessions taken place but a studio album is sitting on the release schedule.

No timescale has been confirmed as yet, although Annie Clark did answer a few questions during an interview with Pitchfork. The project was apparently prompted by a similar endeavour by Bjork and Dirty Projectors, which resulted in the 'Mount Wittenberg Orca'.

"They made original music for that show, and we were approached by the people at Housing Works about doing something similar" she explained. "We started writing the songs, and it just evolved. David said, 'Why don't we go ahead and record these and make it an album?' He doesn't do anything halfway".

The collaboration was seemingly taken extremely seriously by both parties, with recording sessions stretching across a two year period. "It's an honest-to-god, straight-down-the-middle thing. He wrote music, I wrote music; he wrote words, I wrote words. He sings half the songs, I wrote half the songs".

"I've never been that closely entwined in the songwriting, arranging, singing, and lyric-writing process with anyone" Clark said. "On occasion, I found myself writing vocal melodies that were very much like, 'What would David Byrne do?' It ends up that I'm singing some of that stuff, though".

The St Vincent / David Byrne collaboration is speculated to be released this Autumn.

St Vincent recently stopped by Coachella. Fancy watching their entire set online? Of course you do...
