Springsteen Man On Primal Scream

Scottish dance rock heroes Primal Scream have found an unlikely ally - guitarist with the E Street Band Little Steven.

Little Steven has perhaps the greatest job on the planet. When not touring the world with Bruce Springsteen he is an actor in celebrated American gangster show 'The Sopranos'. Plus on his downtime he is also an acclaimed DJ whose mix albums of garage rock nuggets have become cult items.

It seems that one of Little Steven's favourite bands are Primal Scream. Centred on Glaswegian mouth-piece Bobby Gillespie the group have grown from their C86 roots to become a seminal dance rock outfit. Albums 'Screamadelica' and 'XTRMNTR' have become touchstones for generations of bands, with Kasabian pretty much owing their entire career to the latter.

Speaking at late week's South By Southwest Festival the guitarist claimed that Primal Scream could be the biggest group on the planet. "I begged Primal Scream to come over (to the US) because I had a whole tour for them," he said.

"Their agent talked me out of it, said they can't do 20 shows. I said come on man, we do 20 shows a fuckin' month!"

Little Steven added that even though he is a fan, he is hugely frustrated by the group's drug use. "Primal Scream could be the biggest band in the world. They're fantastic when they make rock records once every 10 years but man they can't tour because he's a drug addict or whatever he is. I don't have patience for it. I'm like if you wanna be a drug addict go and be a drug addict - don't waste my time."
