Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore Solo Album

'Demolished Thoughts' due

Sonic Youth guitarist Thurston Moore is set to release his new solo album 'Demolished Thoughts' on May 23rd.

Thurston Moore is one of the real lynchpins of American alternative music. The guitarist's career stretches back some three decades, moving from the murky world of the New York avant garde to grunge semi-stardom.

Part of Sonic Youth's twin guitar attack, Thurston Moore has led an occasional solo career. Teaming up with Beck Hansen, the musician began sessions last year for a potential new album.

Sessions were split between Los Angeles and Northampton (Massachusetts) and have resulted in a brave new album from the songwriter. Thurston Moore is known for experimental diversions in his solo career, with 'Demolished Thoughts' following suit.

Previous solo efforts include 1995's 'Psychic Hearts' and 2007's 'Trees Outside The Academy', both known for bordering on sound collage at times. Apparently Thurston Moore has decided to focus on his songwriting for the new album, yet 'Demolished Thoughts' remains forward thinking.

The guitarist's fourth solo album to date, sessions stretched through Autumn and Winter. 'Demolished Thoughts' owes its title to The Faith's 'It's Time' while the cover is a stark pen-and-paper illustration.

Due for release on May 23rd, 'Demolished Thoughts' follows a recent soundtrack project. Sonic Youth worked with a French film director, contributing some of their most left field recordings in some time.

Apparently more linear, 'Demolished Thoughts' is said to focus on songcraft rather than the overall sonics. Thurston Moore has invited musicians such as violinist Samara Lubelski, harpist Mary Lattimore, bassist Bram Inscore, drummer Joey Waronker and Beck.
