Sonic Youth To Play Free Gig
Band hit New York tomorrow
Slacker-rock legends Sonic Youth are set to perform a free show in the big apple tomorrow (June 9) to celebrate the release of their new album The Eternal.
The band are set to play the Apple Store, Soho on Prince Street, with doors set to open at 7:30pm. Thurston Moore and co. expected to hit the stage at 9PM.
Having just returned with their 15th studio album (reviewed HERE), the New York grunge heroes continue to stun audiences with their blistering, feedback-drenched art-rock assaults.
Returning to the studio last year with long-term producer John Angello, the band have been busy since its release, with Kim Gordon set to release her own fashion line amid extensive world touring (Clash review of their recent London Scala gig HERE).
Just last week the band again hit the headlines when they spoke out against Radiohead's decision to give away their album 'In Rainbows' to fans for a price of their choice. Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon told the Guardian newspaper: "They did a marketing ploy by themselves and then got someone else to put it out. It seemed really community-oriented, but it wasn't catered towards their musician brothers and sisters, who don't sell as many records as them."
Marketing ploy or not, the album went on to snatch Radiohead a grammy award and became the band's most successful album in ten years.
Now kicking off a mammoth american tour,
