Sonic Youth Release Starbucks Comp

Legendary New York noise rock group Sonic Youth have announced a special compilation CD - picked by some of the world's best groups and released through global coffee chain Starbucks.

Sonic Youth have turned to their peers to decide the tracklisting on the new compilation "Hits Are For Squares", with Radiohead, Beck and Flaming Lips amongst the stars lining up to pay tribute to the group. The album will also contain a no doubt typically fraught new recording entitled "Slow Revolution".

The decision to release the album through Starbucks' imprint will no doubt be met by some fury by a portion of the group's fanbase, however it worth pointing out that this is the same Sonic Youth who recorded a Madonna cover (as Cicconne Youth) and appeared on the Simpsons.

"Hits Are For Squares" is released on June 9th. Astonishingly, no one thought to include "Dirty Boots" or "Tunic". Ah well, the tracklisting is as follows:

"Bull In The Heather" (Catherine Keener)
"Sugar Kane" (Beck)
"100%" (Mike D)
"Kool Thing" (Radiohead)
"Disappearer" (Portia De Rossi)
"Superstar" (Diablo Cody)
"Stones" (Allison Anders)
"Tuff Gnarl" (Dave Eggers and Mike Watt)
"Teenage Riot" (Eddie Vedder)
"Shadow Of A Doubt" (Michelle Williams)
"Rain On Tin" (Flea)
"Tom Violence" (Gus Van Zant)
"Mary-Christ" (David Cross)
"World Looks Red" (Chloe Sevigny)
"Expressway To Yr Skull" (Flaming Lips)
"Slow Revolution"
