Sonic Youth

US alt rock legends Sonic Youth played the final ever show at Brooklyn's McCarren Pool venue on Saturday (August 30th) and the band chose to mark the occasion by playing new, unheard, material.

The venue is a historic part of the Brooklyn music scene, and the band were honored to play the final outdoor show. Sonic Youth threw the audience a curveball, however, when they opened with two brand new songs.

Guitarist Thurston Moore explained to the crowd that the band had begun work on a new album, and that the songs were still unfinished. The first song was a Stooges-type riff-heavy monster featuring Moore on lead vocals, whilst the second track was a slow, brooding epic that featured Kim Gordon singing.

The rest of the set was filled with classic Sonic Youth material, finishing with the awesome "Expressway To Yr Skull".
