Sonic Youth / Led Zeppelin Team Up
John Paul Jones Joins Noise Rockers
Legendary New York avant-guitarists Sonic Youth are set to perform with Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones to honor the 90th birthday of choreographer Merce Cunningham.
Sonic Youth are currently engaged in a number of side projects, with Thurston Moore releasing an experimental jazz album and Lee Ranaldo showcasing his paintings in a New York gallery. The group will gather with Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones to collaborate on a work composed by mixed-media artist Takehisa Kosugi.
The show is called 'Merce Cunningham At 90' and will honor the legendary dance guru. This is not the first time he has inspired musicians to work together - in 2003 Radiohead and Sigur Ros joined forces for his 'Split Sides' show.
John Paul Jones has been at the center of the recent rumors surrounding Led Zeppelin. It was his interview with the BBC that revealed the group had been rehearsing and wanted to perform a full-scale tour.
'Merce Cunningham At 90' takes place from April 16th - 19th in the Brooklyn Academy Of Music.
