Snow Patrol Play Homecoming Show
Group play to international football team
Northern Irish indie group Snow Patrol have played a sensational homecoming show in Belfast on March 23rd.
Snow Patrol formed in the Scottish city of Dundee while singer Gary Lightbody was studying there. The band stood on the pop sidelines for some time, perfecting their blend of anthemic indie.
The group's breakthrough came with the single 'Run' which exploded into the Top Ten. An instant classic, it propelled parent album 'Final Straw' to platinum status making Snow Patrol one of the biggest groups in the country.
Lightbody & Co. recently headed out on a massive arena tour of Britain and Ireland. Taking to the stage at the 9,000 capacity Odyssey Arena the band performed a stunning hit laden set. Amongst the audience members were most of the Northern Irish football team.
Gary Lightbody moved back to his home city three years ago after a spell in Glasgow. Clearly overwhelmed by the response of fans, Lightbody missed his cue for 'You Could Be Happy' confessing to the crowd "I haven’t been the most professional tonight, and that’s because I’m a little overwhelmed."
Snow Patrol paid tribute to their heritage by booking only Northern Irish groups as support - with Duke Special and former bandmate Iain Archer playing warm up slots. Singer Lightbody personally invited the Northern Irish football team in tribute to their recent achievements.
Amongst the special treats in the set were an acoustic cover of The Undertones' 'Teenage Kicks' and a rendition of 'Olive Grove' - which Lightbody played after reading a banner requesting it.
