Smokey Robinson For SXSW

Motown star to give keynote speech

Motown legend Smokey Robinson is set to give the keynote speech at next year's Texan bash SXSW.

Smokey Robinson is one of the most celebrated songwriters in the history of pop music. Berry Gordy may have founded Motown Records but is was his close friend Robinson who scored the label's early hits.

Leading his group The Miracles the singer scored Motown's first million selling hit with 'Shop Around'. The Detroit imprint never looked back, with Smokey Robinson leading the way crafting a series of smash hits.

Credited with over one thousand songs, Smokey Robinson worked extensively with Motown legends such as Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and of course the young Michael Jackson.

Still working hard, Smokey Robinson recently completed his latest studio album. Travelling to Britain for a very rare show, the singer took part in the BBC Electric Proms event on Saturday (October 24th).

Now the Motown icon has confirmed another public appearance. Following in the footsteps of last year's speaker Lou Reed Smokey Robinson is set to give the keynote speech at next year's SXSW event.

A massive showcase event last year's performers included thrash legends Metallica, Jane's Addiction, Kanye West and more.

Taking place in Austin, Texas the festival takes place between March 17th - 21st.
