Smith Westerns are set to release their third album 'Soft Will' on June 24th.
There are some things you'll never tire of. Chocolate, for one, remains a continual favourite while this week has reminded the ClashMusic team of the rejuvenating powers of sunshine.
But we'll never tire of scuzzy, American rock music. Smith Westerns excel at these deranged thrills, with breakthrough album 'Dye It Blonde' sparking an international tour which contained more than 140 shows.
Now a follow up is in the works. Third album 'Soft Will' is set to be released on June 24th, with Co-op/ Mom+Pop helping to usher the material out into the waiting world.
Working with producer Chris Coady, sessions took place at Sonic Ranch in El Paso, Texas. Subsequent recording saw the band de-camp to Chicago, before the final mix down took place in New York in December.
Out on June 24th, the new album will be preceded by single 'Varsity'. Alan Del Rio Ortiz stepped in to direct the video, in which the director claimed that he "wanted to make a non narrative video clip about young love without showing the usual conventions of going on dates or hanging out at the mall. We studied this couple as they would study themselves and each other in their dreams, and used abstractly sexual imagery to give it a hallucinogenic and hazy atmosphere".
