Sky Larkin Prepare New Single

In newspaper format...
Sky Larkin

Sky Larkin are set to release upcoming single 'Newsworthy'... as a newspaper.

The astonishing rise of the digital realm seems to have sparked a fetishisation in some quarters for the physical product. Unusual formats are the name of the game, with a growing number of groups releasing material in often outlandish ways.

Sky Larkin are a case in point. Returning with new album 'Motto' the band have spent the bulk of the year on the road. Stripped from the recent LP, upcoming single 'Newsworthy' is a sidelong glance at the media world.

Out on December 9th, the track will be available both digitally and as a newspaper in its own right. Kate Larkin explains: "the scale of the disembodied digital world can numb us into passive awe, but it doesn't have to be like that. Keep it newsworthy; it helps. I've always wanted our records to be immediate at their most accessible, and at their most expansive, inhabitable. This sense of a vast but private scale is what I was chasing whilst mapping the ebbs and flows of this song. While the avenues for communication continue to multiply, it's the duty of the craftsman not the tools to keep ourselves actively engaged."

Speaking exclusively to Clash, Kate revealed which newspapers grab her attention - for better or worse. "In terms of what I pick it, I’m drawn in by stories and photos that move me. If a story hooks me in, then I read everything everywhere I can in order to get the biggest picture. I’m not after fiction - there are writers that are much better at that. And I don’t read anything that has a ‘page three’."
