Seasick Steve / Jack White Hit The Studio

Drink whiskey / eat waffles...

Seasick Steve and Jack White have revealed that they have been recording music together.

In some ways, it was inevitable. Seasick Steve's band of stripped down blues has earned many admirers, and with his background in re-invigorating Delta styles Jack White has plenty in common with the hobo bluesman.

Signing Seasick Steve to his Third Man label, Jack White recently helped introduce the singer at SXSW. The pair share mutual influences, as well as a love for recording live and direct in the studio.

Visiting the Third Man studio in Nashville, Seasick Steve quickly found himself jamming with Jack White. Putting down his guitar, White returned to his first instruments the drums to record two new tracks.

Recorded in Nashville, 'Write Me A Few Of Your Lines' and 'Levee Camp Blues' (both written by Mississippi Fred McDowell) were left off Seasick Steve's new album 'You Can't Teach An Old Dog New Tricks' as it was felt that they didn't fit.

With the digital release looming, the two cuts have been added as extras. Interviewed by Jim Sclavunos (Grinderman/ The Bad Seeds) about his time with Jack White, Seasick Steve reveals penchant for whiskey and waffles.

"I flew out to Nashville and I got there about 5:30 at night and Jack wanted me to come out to his house, just to talk about what we was going to record the next day. He got a studio behind his house" he explained. "So I go in the studio and Vance was there and Jack, and he goes “Show me what you want to do.” So I start playing and he sits down on the drums and there’s some whiskey there, so I started drinking, and everyone was drinking, and all of sudden the session was over!"

The recording sessions lasted all night, with Seasick Steve ending up tired and hungry having missed his meal. "Nothing man, just piles of whiskey. And then me and Vance - he’s a healthy eater too, so about 1:30 we went out to The Waffle House out there in Nashville and I ate four breakfasts. They was intense man. And then we were done."

'You Can't Teach An Old Dog New Tricks' is out on Monday (May 30th).
