RZA and Interpol's Paul Banks are working on a collaborative album together.
Paul Banks is full of surprises. The Interpol guitarist has led a healthy solo career, releasing material under his own name and that of Julien Plenti. In February, the American musician dropped a mixtape of hip hop instrumentals, and it seems that this won't be a one off.
"I love Paul," he said. "My manager came to me and said, 'Who do you want to do an album with?' I said, 'Well, Paul just has an energy about him'."
"(Paul) just left my house. He came and spent two weeks at my house – I have a guesthouse in my studio. We play chess together and just hang out … I think if we put our sandwich together it will be great."
Musically, fans should expect the unexpected. The rapper admits that the material doesn't fall into his usual output, and the addition of RZA means that Banks will be working well outside his comfort zone.
"We went to the studio and we started writing songs and they sound very, very different than what I do, but very unique and very peculiar," said RZA. "That's where my heart is at musically."
RZA, of course, has just been touring with Wu-Tang Clan - Clash caught up with the collective recently, check out what they had to say HERE.
