Run DMC Set To Reform?
Questlove drops some hints
Rap icons Run DMC could be set to reform this summer for a special appearance at an event curated by The Roots.
Run DMC are simply one of the most influential groups of all time. The band proved that hip hop was a lasting musical form, dragging it out of a post-disco mode and injecting some ghetto attitude.
Blazing a trail for the rest to follow, the band inspired more than 20 years of rap music. Sadly, however, group lynchpin Jam Master Jay was murdered in his studio in 2002 bringing the band's career to a close.
Since then, the hip hop world has mourned the passing of a group who did more than any other to break rap across the United States. Now Run DMC could be set to reform for a special appearance at Roots Picnic.
The band would be following in the footsteps of Public Enemy, who played their classic 1988 album 'It Takes A Nation Of Millions'. Releasing a new video on his Twitter account, Questlove promised that this year's headliner would be even better.
"If you were at the festival last year, you will notice that The Roots lived out their fantasy of doing the classic 'It Takes a Nation of Millions' album with Public Enemy," Questlove said in the video.
"Are we going to top that? We are absolutely going to top that. This is a reunion we thought we would never get."
Questlove continued: "We've been waiting to make this reunion happen for the longest, it's so incredible, I don't even want to tell you who it is. This is all I'm gonna say..."
Then the drummer put on a trademark Run DMC gold chain and held the classic 'arms across the chest' pose linked to the band.
Roots Picnic is set to take place on June 5th.
