Roy Harper Faces Child Sex Charges

Folk singer charged by police

Roy Harper has been charged with child sex offences.

A renowned – if somewhat neglected – songwriter, Roy Harper recently returned with new album 'Man & Myth'. Making frequent visits to the UK from his home in Ireland, the songwriter was stopped by police while attempting to board a flight at Heathrow Airport on February 22nd.

Probed over child sex accusations, Roy Harper was formally charged on October 16th. Due to appear in Hereford Magistrates' Court on Monday (November 18th), the singer will be accused of nine counts of sexual assault.

The offences are alleged to have occurred in Herefordshire between 1975 and 1977, and relate to one victim.

Roy Harper currently lives in the Republic of Ireland, and is perhaps best known through his associations with Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. 'Led Zeppelin III' bears the track 'Hats Off (To Roy Harper)' while the folk icon delivered guest vocals on Pink Floyd's 'Have a Cigar'.

The case is ongoing.
