Rough Trade Demo Plea
Indie Label Appeals For New Groups
Legendary indie label Rough Trade have appealed to any aspiring musicians to submit a demo tape to them at the label's forthcoming 30th anniversary show.
Founded by Geoff Travis in 1978, the label grew to become one of the most important in the UK. The one time home of Scritti Politti, Young Marble Giants and The Smiths amongst a host of others, Rough Trade was the inspirational figurehead for the indie movement in the 80s.
However, the label went under in the 90s and was inactive until Travis and Jeanette Lee bought back the name at the turn of the Millennium. Since then, Rough Trade has released seminal material by The Strokes and The Libertines, putting the word 'indie' back into the mainstream.
The forthcoming gig sees the label celebrate 30 years of discovering new talent. If you think you've got what it takes to join their illustrious list of groups, the go along to the gig and hand the bosses a demo tape. Sometimes the simplest methods are the best.
