Ronnie Wood Plays At The 100 Club

Alongside former Rolling Stones...

Ronnie Wood has been joined by former members of the Rolling Stones during a 100 Club benefit show.

Originally opened as a live music venue before the Second World War, the 100 Club is one of London’s most iconic venues. A hub for youth culture across the decades, everyone from Mods to Punks have called the venue home.

However rising rents could put the 100 Club out of business. Owners have been given until Christmas to raise funds, or could face being shut down.

A high profile campaign to save the venue has begun, drawing support from the upper echelons of the music industry. A recent benefit show at the 100 Club saw Ronnie Wood joined by special guests.

Taking to the stage, Ronnie Wood was flanked by two exiles from the Rolling Stones. Dick Taylor was the band’s initial bass player before departing to join fellow R&B wildmen Pretty Things.

Joining Ronnie Wood at the 100 Club, the trio was completed by guitarist Mick Taylor. Joining the band in 1968, Mick Taylor played on The Rolling Stones golden run of albums between ’68 and ’73.

Departing in acrimonious circumstances, Taylor was replaced by Ronnie Wood. Together the three jammed on a version of ‘Spoonful’ in aid a venue which helped launch their respective careers.

“Are we ready to continue saving the 100 Club?” Wood asked the audience at one point. Owner Jeff Horton later told BBC 6Music that the club was being forced to go down the sponsorship route.

“There’s no question we’re going to have to go down the route of sponsorship, because the club can’t exist without one, but it’s not just about a cheque-writing exercise” he said.
