Scottish event takes year off...

Nestling by the banks of Loch Ness, RockNess became one of the festival season’s most unlikely success stories.

Started as a one day dance event, the festival grew into a sprawling weekender which rivalled the colossal T In The Park.

Sadly, though, RockNess won’t be returning this summer – which, if nothing else, spares Nessie from sonic depth charges emanating from the main stage.

In a short statement on their Facebook page, RockNess organisers blamed the enormous increase in competition from events associated with the World Cup and the Commonwealth Games, which will be hosted by Glasgow.

The statement in full:

We’d like to thank you for your support over the last 8 years. Due to the addition of a number of events alongside the World Cup and the Commonwealth Games we’ve decided to take a year off. We’re using this break to make the event bigger and better than ever in 2015 so have an amazing summer and see you back at the Loch next year!
