R.E.M. completed the UK leg of their massive European tour with a show at London's Twickenham Stadium, which contained a fierce endorsement of US presidential candidate Barack Obama.
The band played the show at Twickenham Stadium, London on Saturday (August 30th), and played a number of their more politically charged songs. Ranging from "These Days" from "Lifes Rich Pageant" to "Man Sized Wreath" from recent album "Accelerate", the band played a set that drew on the full might of their hefty back catalogue.
Before playing "Ignoreland" from "Automatic For The People", singer Michael Stipe paused to explain the motives behind the song - a scathing indictment of neo-Conservatism from the early 90s. "We hate our President. I feel that this year will see a change - getting the Bush administration the fuck out of office and the Obama administration the fuck into office."
Opening with "Living Well Is The Best Revenge" the band played an incendiary set, with a surprise in the encore as they performed "Perfect Circle" - from their 1983 debut album "Murmur".
