Legendary American group R.E.M. have expanded their European tour, due to start this summer.

R.E.M. released their latest album "Accelerate" this year, to the group's warmest critical reception in a decade. The reinvigorated band roadtested the new material with a residency in Dublin, and R.E.M. are said to be on their best live form since original drummer Bill Berry left the band.

The world tour kicked off in Vancouver on May 23rd, and includes six British and Irish shows. The band will play a number of festivals this summer, including Scotland's T In The Park and Ireland's Oxegen festival.

R.E.M. will play the following UK dates:

July 12th - Oxegen Festival, Ireland
July 13th - T In The Park Festival
August 24th - Manchester, Lancashire County Cricket Club
August 25th - Cardiff, Millennium Stadium
August 27th - Southampton, Rose Bowl
August 30th - London, Twickenham Stadium
