American giants REM have joined English hero Jarvis Cocker and a host of other bands to donate handmade signs to an auction to benefit War Child International.

REM and Jarvis Cocker have created handmade signs for a new auction in aid of War Child, and will be joined by Rage Against The Machine, Modest Mouse, Death Cab For Cutie, Flaming Lips, Public Enemy, Foals, Supergrass and a host of others.

The pieces were initially published earlier this summer in the 'Under The Radar Protest Issue' which featured photographs of the artists holding the signs bearing their thoughts on the current political situation.

The results made for intriguing viewing, with some bands revealing a hitherto unknown artistic bent. Rage Against The Machine are well known for their outspoken political views, but less well known is frontman Zack De La Rocha' interest in art - his father was a well known painter.

The signs will be sold via online auction site eBay, with all profits going to aid the charity War Child International.
