Rakes Clash With Lady Gaga

Indie group criticise star

London indie stars The Rakes have clashed with electro star Lady Gaga, saying she dresses like an “ugly prostitute”.

The Rakes emerged from the same Whitechapel indie punk scene that spawned the Libertines. With some sharp tunes and tasty fashion sense the group soon became hot property, sparking a bidding war which V2 eventually won.

Debut album ‘Capture / Release’ was an acclaimed Top 40 hit, containing the singles ’22 Grand Job’ amongst others. The group’s second album ‘Ten New Messages’ was a further blast of disillusioned rock, but the sense that The Rakes were merely treading water was beginning to set in.

A support slot with Franz Ferdinand seemed to rejuvenate the group. The two bands have previously worked with influential fashion designer Hedi Slimane, with The Rakes apparently inspiring an entire range.

New album ‘Klang’ is a resurgent return to form, and in a new interview singer Alan Donahue feels confident enough to lay into Lady Gaga claiming she is “selling crap to kids”. The American electro star has already claimed two massive number one hits this year.

“Lady GaGa is trash and dresses like a prostitute. I think she’s terrible and really ugly. I hate her,” he told the Daily Star newspaper.

However Donahue insisted he did have time for Leona Lewis who is “nice but dull”.

The Rakes new album ‘Klang’ is available now.
