Radio One Big Weekend Latest
Latest from Swindon event
Britain's biggest free entry music event Radio 1's Big Weekend is set to return, with the festival due to descend on Swindon soon.
Radio 1's Big Weekend is one of the true highlights of the summer. Attracting some of the biggest bands in Britain and beyond, it has a genuine carnival atmosphere which seems to be motivated purely by the music.
The festival shifts from city to city each year, and this summer the lucky destination is Swindon. For one massive weekend Radio 1 will come to town, bringing in their wake some top notch musical talent.
This year's headliners include The Prodigy. Formed out of the rave explosion, The Prodigy's mixture of rock, dance and jungle came to conquer the world with their 1997 album 'Fat Of The Land'.
Returning earlier this year with their new album 'Invaders Must Die' The Prodigy are showing no signs of slowing down, with their live shows as spectacular as ever. Jason Carter, Editor, BBC Live Events, said: "We're delighted to have landed The Prodigy to headline Swindon on Sunday 10 May. They're a superb live act and we've been working very hard to get them in on the show as a late addition. It's shaping up to be a fantastic weekend of live music."
40,000 music fans are set to descend on Swindon's Lydiard Park with the line up spread across four arenas. Snow Patrol are also due to headline, and will be joined by foul mouthed pop pixie Lily Allen - fresh from the huge success of her new album 'It's Not Me, It's You'.
Leicester indie giants Kasabian are also due to play the event, and could perhaps be persuaded to perform tracks from their forthcoming album 'West Rider Pauper Asylum'.
Whereas lesser events would pull up and then ship out with a glance at local music, Radio 1's Big Weekend is committed to showcasing new talent from Swindon. A series of fringe events will contain a number of gigs and talks on how to get ahead in the music industry.
Containing a series of world class DJs and with new additions to the line up being made all the time, this summer's Radio 1's Big Weekend could well be the best yet.
Radio 1's Big Weekend is due to take place between May 9th - 10th.
