Quadrophenia Musical Planned

New adaptation of The Who's album

The Who's legendary album Quadrophenia is set to be adapted into a lavish new stage show.

Released in 1973, The Who's 'Quadrophenia' album was an artistic and commercial success. Telling the story of a young Mod named Jimmy Cooper and his disillusion with the Mod lifestyle, the album remains one of the band's best known works.

'Quadrophenia' was turned into a film in 1979, becoming a cult classic and arguably inspiring a massive nationwide Mod revival.

Now the album is set to be turned into a lavish stage show. Opening in the Theatre Royal, Plymouth the stage show will go on tour for six months.

Songwriter Pete Townshend of The Who issued a statement to say "I am excited about this new production. Its genesis in workshop in Cardiff was wonderful, and what is happening now with the Theatre Royal in Plymouth feels right-sized on the one hand, but also insanely ambitious for such a tricky piece."

Directed by Tom Critchley, the new adaptation was cast by Pippa Ailion.

'Quadrophenia' opens in the Theatre Royal, Plymouth on May 9th.
