Prosecution Rests In Spector Trial
Legendary producer in court again
The murder re-trial of Phil Spector continued yesterday (January 22nd) with the prosecution resting its case.
Spector stands accused of murdering the actress Lana Clarkson at his home in 2003. A previous trial collapsed last year after the jury was left deadlocked, and the new trial is nearing completion.
As their final witness the prosecution called Donna Clarkson, the deceased's mother. Clarkson told the court that the actress spent her final day with her shopping for shoes, and that the young woman was attempting to revive he acting career.
Phil Spector is alleged to have murdered Clarkson at his Los Angeles mansion on February 3rd.
Spector's wayward behaviour is the stuff of music industry folklore. The pioneer of the 'Wall Of Sound' technique, he was also a notorious husband. Prone to threatening musicians, Spector apparently pulled a gun on both The Ramones and John Lennon - though not at the same time.
The defence case should begin on Monday (January 26th) and could last three weeks.
