Preview: Raw Power Returns In 2016

Three day festival, loaded up with noise...

Iggy Pop ain't never gonna lose his bite, but the ‘Godfather of Punk’s’ riotous spirit continues to spawn fresh lunacy all the time – look no further than grassroots noise weekender Raw Power for proof. As you might expect from a festival that takes its name from the third Stooges’ album, Raw Power rejoices in everything that is feral and unpredictable in the music biz today. Steered by the promoters of the superbly noisy Baba Yaga’s Hut nights (birthed in south London's Corsica Studios), it features the great and good of the rock underground, whether that’s rowdy youngbloods like Brighton’s Lower Slaughter or well-seasoned amp slayers like Part Chimp.

Indeed, bizarre band names and equally bizarre sounds will abound amid the upper-crust bustle of Tuffnell Park this weekend (May 27-29). The aforementioned Hackney noise-rock heroes will headline alongside Japanese synth-and-brain manglers Melt Banana, joined by search-engine friendly doom mongers Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs, wonky jazzers Anonymous Bash, unremittingly unfunky Sly And The Family Drone and a veritable cornucopia of acts typically accessed at 3am in a fug of skunk smoke while Spotify surfing.

And in these straitened times, a weekend ticket at an affordable £60 is not to be sniffed at. As Mr. Pop himself snarled in the festival namesake…”Raw Power got a magic touch…Happiness is a guaranteed”.

Raw Power runs between May 27th – 29th – LINK.
