President Obama Slates Kanye West

MTV Awards row deepens

In astonishing turns of events the row over Kanye West's MTV Video Awards stage invasion has reached the White House.

As the first African-American President of the United States, Barack Obama has enjoyed the widespread support of the hip hop community. Yet while the politician has appreciated this, Obama's support for black music is not unqualified.

In a Rolling Stone feature before the recent election the President admitted that he had some hip hop on his iPod, but insisted that he believed rappers should be more positive role models for young people.

Enter Kanye West - literally. The rapper stormed the stage at the recent MTV Video Music Awards after Taylor Swift beat off competition from Beyonce, arguing that the one time Destiny's Child singer should have won.

Since then, a storm has erupted over West's actions. Widely condemned, Kanye West has been slated by Taylor Swift's mother with the rapper being forced to apologise multiple times.

Using his Twitter account and personal blog West stated how sorry he was, before apologising on American TV. However it seems as if one person in the United States isn't satisfied with Barack Obama labelling Kanye West "a jackass".

BBC News reports Obama as stating before a press conference that "I thought it was inappropriate, it's like she's getting an award, why are you butting in?"

"The young lady seems like a perfectly nice person, she's getting her award, what's he doing up there?"

Chatting to CNBC report John Harwood the President remarked: "He's a jackass".

Kanye West has yet to respond.
