Premiere: Vanbot – ‘Collide (Krasnoyarsk)’

Expertly stylish pop inspired by the Trans-Siberian railway...

It's not often Clash will encounter a project inspired by rail travel.

Sadly, steam engines don't seem to fuel the creative world as once they did, despite their inherent romanticism.

Scandinavian singer Vanbot took a journey on the Trans-Siberian railway recently, and the journey seems to have stuck in her mind.

Fuelling an entire album, the material is set to emerge this year. Vanbot comments: "I’m so glad to finally start releasing the songs and be able to talk about the album we made on the Trans-Siberian Railway! This project have been a dream of mine since years back, and just the fact that it actually happened still seems unreal to me."

Clash is able to air new cut 'Collide (Krasnoyarsk)' and it owes a direct debt to that fateful train journey. Crisp, artful pop music, Vanbot explains:

“’Collide (Krasnoyarsk)’ was written after four days on the Trans-Siberian Railway, traveling through the deepest parts of Siberia. The temperature was just above zero, it was raining and we were passing through small villages and old industrial communities. It describes the collisions and the attractions in relationships, and having no choice but to accept the raw and un-retouched feelings. You know, it’s like the poem of David Jones: ‘It’s both a blessing and a curse to feel everything so very deeply’.”

Tune in now.
