Premiere: The Bohicas - XXX (Boxed In A12 Remix)

Listen to it now...
The Bohicas

The suburbs are an awkward hinterland, an extremely modern urban sprawl half-way between a ghetto and a greenhouse.

It's a fluid space, one within view of the grandeur of the city but too far away to really exploit it. With the character formed amidst the rapid growth of the post-war era, the suburbs are perhaps where England is at its most English.

The Bohicas naturally, hail from the suburbs. Formed in the hinterlands between East London and Essex, the group introduced them earlier this year via Domino Records backed double A-side single 'XXX' b/w 'Swarm'.

Fusing a motorik beat with jagged, Mary Chain style guitars, it was an uncompromising introduction from a group who deft categorisation. Able to grow up without the pressure of conforming to a specific scene, The Bohicas are able to pick and choose as they please, plundering rock's heritage to form their own identity.

Moshi Moshi signing Boxed In has dropped past on remix duties, impacting a real sense of Englishness onto proceedings. 'XXX' is transformed from a raw, ragged piece of indie rock into a bleeping, Kraftwerk inspired journey up a trunk rock and to the coast of Great Yarmouth.

Tracing out the journey of the A12, Boxed In's re-work is a cute homage to the Brutalist architecture, the endless Little Chefs which dot the endlessly intricate road journeys of Southern England.
