Premiere: Max Jury – ‘Black Metal’

"Black metal all day long..."

Older than his years, that’s Max Jury.

Listening to his music, there’s a sense that the songwriter is capable of tapping into something larger, much older than himself. It’s not tradition, per se, more an approach, a wistful Americana born from the endless expanse of his Iowa hometown.

6Music staple ‘Christian Eyes’ helped Max Jury make a dent here in the UK, with new EP ‘All I Want: The Sonic Factory Sessions’ set to keep this flame burning.

Out this Autumn, Clash is able to premiere a lil something from the new EP. ‘Black Metal’ has a gilded, sepia tone, an elegiac country hymn to illicit love.

Naturally, there’s a modern twist: the object of Max Jury’s affection “don’t listen to jazz, blues or soul… she listens to black metal all day long.”

It’s wry, amusing and more than a little affecting. Tune in below.
