Perhaps it's in her genes.
Marika Hackman boasts a touch of Scandinavian in her heritage, and - listening to her music - that perhaps seems a little obvious.
Sweet yet deeply affecting, her songwriting has a melancholic innocence, matching folk textures against some adventurous arrangements.
Taking her newly formed live band on the road in March, Marika Hackman is currently in the middle of recording her debut album with award winning producer Charlie Andrew (the man who crafted alt-j's Mercury award winning 'An Awesome Wave').
Breaking cover, the singer has confirmed plans for a headline tour in November. Opening in Edinburgh on November 3rd, the English artist will then play dates in Carlisle, Sheffield, Liverpool and more.
Hitting Manchester on November 8th, Marika Hackman will play Nottingham on November 14th. Returning to the capital, the songwriter is due to perform at Shoreditch nightspot XOYO on November 18th before ending the tour with a Brighton show on November 20th.
Tickets go on sale at 9am this Friday (July 11th). As a lil preview... check out Marika Hackman performing 'Wolf' at London's analogue hub Toe Rag Studios.
