As far as genre names go, 'doom pop' is one of the more forbidding.
Yet it is, at least, pop - albeit in the loosest possible sense. Hailing from Cambridge, Lonely The Brave coined this term for their Facebook page and, somewhat incongruously, it's stuck.
Perhaps that's because it works. Specialising in down beat, introverted songwriting with an outward gaze, Lonely The Brave have a sweeping edge which swiftly overpowers any lingering doubts.
Set to play The Great Escape tonight (Concorde 2, 8.30pm) Lonely The Braze popped past the Clash office on their way to the south coast.
Leaving behind a small present, we are thrilled to be able to premiere a new cover version from the four piece.
Originally penned by Bruce Springsteen, 'Streets Of Philadelphia' is a sombre, moving track with a funereal pacing. Adding some muscle, Lonely The Brave's performance seems to have a repressed anger, a real sense of pain running through it.
Check it out now.
