Premiere: Blueneck – ‘Counting Out’

Post-rock pioneers with an impassioned songwriting sensibility...

For many, post-rock has coalesced into a certain sound – a sound which seems to bypass songcraft.

For Somerset experimentalists Blueneck, though, that tag needed take them away from a gorgeous melody line, an involving hook.

Continuing to challenge themselves, the band's prog-inspired sound has always revolved around the impassioned vocals of Duncan Attwood.

In 2012, though, Blueneck surprised fans by releasing the entirely instrumental LP 'Epilogue'. Alongside this, though, the group were secretly stockpiling vocal material for their next endeavour.

'King Nine' will be released on November 10th, and it's a dramatic, sweeping return. A remarkably cinematic record, the album will be accompanied by imagery supplied by photographer Lasse Hoile.

Clash is able to premiere the lucid songwriting of 'Counting Out'. Sounding like a rather more melodic King Crimson, the gentle vocal lines belie the complexity of the ideas working underneath.
