Starring Broken Social Scene and more

Hugely influential Seattle group The Posies have reformed with plans to release a new album.

The Posies are outcasts within outcasts. Based in Seattle, the group started just as the grunge movement was taking off. Making little impression on the charts, the band's output was nonetheless hugely influential.

Taking time off, the band were given the ultimate seal of approval when Alex Chilton invited several members to join the reformed version of Big Star.

Touring widely, the power pop legends recorded an album together before Chilton's untimely death earlier this year.

Now singer Ken Stringfellow has resumed The Posies. The band are set to release new album 'Blood / Candy' on September 27th, starring guest appearances from members of The Stranglers and Broken Social Scene.

"It is kind of a first for us," admitted Stringfellow. "It's a really cool spread of artists from different generations though, so it's very versatile."

Broken Social Scene singer Lisa Lobsinger appears on the forthcoming record. "Our drummer Darius (Minwalla) knows Lisa," he said. "So we hung out and had some wine at this festival in Seattle and it went from there. She has a very pure voice and for me the track she appears on ('Licenses To Hide') with me is very bombastic and over the top in a wonderfully melodic way, a bit like a Broadway song."

Meanwhile, Stranglers singer Hugh Cornwell appears on album opener 'Plastic Paperbacks'. "It was really cool having Hugh on there because we've never had a British voice on one of our albums," he explained. "It's similar to some of The Stranglers songs. He speaks the words and I thought that'd be perfect for this song. It's just so cool, as soon as he starts speaking, he goes, 'hard man' in that weird way."

The Posies have confirmed a handful of shows to promote the album, with Lisa Lobsinger unlikely to make a guest appearance. However Cornwell could appear at British shows, with the band due to play London on October 5th.

The Posies have confirmed the following shows:
