Portishead Seek Fan Advice
On how to release new album
Bristol musical legends Portishead have called on fans to suggest ways the group can release their music after the band's deal with Island Records expired.
Portishead were on hiatus for almost a decade before suddenly breaking ground with last year's 'Third'. A stunning return, it was recognisably the product of the same band who produced 'Glory Box' but was a remarkable leap forward.
At times almost industrial, it stands on a par with the band's two seminal 90s releases. The band are working on a new album but are puzzled with how to release it.
Musician Geoff Barrow has asked fans for their suggestions, but has ruled out following Radiohead's lead. The message reads:
"the future.......
so then
we spent the day discussing the future of the P as we are free...
well free of a deal and free of comitment... for now!
with the world being the way it is there are lots of options open......but if you lot have any bright ideas of how we should sell our music in the future lets us know , why not!
i dont think that were into giving out music away for free to be honest...it fukin takes ages to write and we have to heat our swimming pools.....!!!
anyways that's it for now
geoff {P}"
