Big Pink, Art Brut and more

American alt rock legends Pixies have confirmed details of the support acts at their upcoming London residency.

It is now 20 years since Pixies released 'Doolittle'. 20 years in which almost every guitar band worth their salt have ripped off, copied or desperately tried to avoid what has become a landmark release in American music.

Recorded with Steve Albini, the album has often been compared unfavourably to debut 'Surfer Rosa'. However those who slate 'Doolittle' can do so at their peril - it's a complete classic and an undoubted influence on the grunge explosion.

Still fresh faced after two decades 'Doolittle' is set to get a thorough seeing to on Pixies forthcoming tour. The American giants played only one festival slot in the UK this summer, and with tour dates becoming increasingly rare demand for tickets has been high.

Kicking off in Ireland's Olympia venue on September 30th Pixies have confirmed details of a four night residency in London's O2 Academy Brixton.

Tickets are long since sold out, with Pixies now unveiling details of the acts due to support them on the forthcoming dates. Hotly tipped noise rock duo The Big Pink are set to appear, with Art Brut also confirmed to appear.

Newcomers Bombay Bicycle Club will treads the boards alongside Pixies, before Dinosaur Pile Up finish the residency. The band recently released a statement claiming they were "over the moon" about supporting Pixies.

"They're legends to a lot of our generation. It'll be an honour, and we will be very shy. It'll be awesome," said singer and guitarist Matt Bigland.

Pixies are set to play the following shows:

6 London O2 Academy Brixton (support from The Big Pink)
7 London O2 Academy Brixton (support from Bombay Bicycle Club)
8 London O2 Academy Brixton (support from Art Brut)
9 London O2 Academy Brixton (support from Dinosaur Pile Up)
