Peter Saville is set to design Kanye West's new logo.
Kanye West has always been conscious of his image. From the preppy, clean cut days of 'The College Dropout' to his Louis Vuitton collaboration, each step of the rapper's career seems to be accompanied by a shift in visuals.
Now the hip hop icon is looking for a new logo. Kanye West has decided to recruit Peter Saville to assist in the design process, with the one time Factory designer now discussing ideas with the rapper, Dezeen reports (via Pitchfork).
Speaking at the Global Design Forum, Peter Saville explained that the collaboration was "casual" and that no commission had been set in place. "We're looking at ways of writing 'Kanye West,'" he said. "What does 'Kanye' and 'Kanye West' look like written down?"
Seemingly, Kanye West is aiming for something iconic and cited Cassandre's 1961 logo for Yves Saint Laurent as an inspiration. "He said to me: 'You're Cassandre'"revealed the designer. "He wants a YSL".
Peter Saville, of course, is responsible for some of the most revered record sleeves in British pop culture. From 'Unknown Pleasures' to 'Blue Monday' his work has left an indelible impact - so much so, in fact, that England's football team recruited the designer to craft a new version of their kit.
