To cover a Joy Division classic

Peter Hook's The Light have been joined by Moby during a special show in Los Angeles.

Currently on tour across the United States, Peter Hook's The Light have dedicated themselves to celebrating the music of Joy Division. Fans are split over the project, although Hook's heart is undoubtedly in the right place.

Playing a show in Los Angeles recently, the band were joined by some special guests. Jane's Addiction frontman Perry Farrell joined Peter Hook's The Light during the concert, to perform some of Joy Division's seminal material.

Elsewhere during the concert, Moby was invited onstage. Perhaps not the most credible name around, the producer is nonetheless an outspoken fan of Joy Division going as far as covering the band's album cut 'New Dawn Fades' back in 1994.

Giving the song a soft, tender acoustic treatment Moby added something of his own to the cover. Invited to perform with Peter Hook's The Light, the producer was delighted to be able to sing some of his favourite Joy Division cuts.

The show took place at the Music Box in Los Angeles on September 14th, with Moby appearing during an interlude to perform two tracks from 'Closer'.

“I was excited and nervous to be singing Joy Division songs with Peter Hook and The Light but at souncheck, hearing “Isolation” in an empty theatre was magical" said Moby.

"When I went on to sing “Transmission” at the encore, I thought “Is this real?” It was an amazing experience. Thank you Peter Hook And The Light and everyone at The Music Box. Singing Joy Division songs is a dream come true for me."

Peter Hook was overjoyed to be joined two special guests. “I love coming to Los Angeles and I’m thoroughly delighted that two great musicians, Moby and Perry Farrell, joined me and The Light for a great gig."

"I’m touched by their support and their respect for Joy Division which they showed by delivering fantastic performances as always. I suppose LA’s not a lonely place after all.”
