Peter Hook Hacienda Book Details
New mix CD also due
New Order legend turned DJ Peter Hook has unveiled details of his new book detailing the history of the Hacienda.
Way back in the early 80s, British nightclubs were generally dark and dank places. Owned by shadowy figures, the only real underground dance scene in the country revolved around Northern Soul - by then, some 20 years old.
However things were changing. Retreating to New York after the death of Ian Curtis, the members of the newly christened New Order discovered that the city's nightlife was like nowhere else on earth.
Inspired by the heady mixture of new forms of music, new DJ techniques and an open minded attitude Manchester's Factory records vowed to re-create those clubs in their hometown. Opening as The Hacienda, the nightclub would go on to become one of the most iconic in the history of UK dance.
Forming the epicentre of Northern life, the Hacienda would become a rite of passage for a generation. One of the central breeding grounds for the Acid House sensation, the club enjoyed huge success.
However this belied the financial mis-judgements and behind the scenes rows that dogged the Hacienda. Shutting its doors in 1997, the club has now been re-developed and turned into flats.
Titled 'The Hacienda - How Not Run A Club' Peter Hook has written down his account of life behind the scenes at the seminal nightspot. Detailing the rise and fall of a British clubland institution, the book is set to be accompanied by a new mix CD.
Since the Hacienda closed its doors Peter Hook has embraced club life as never before. Now a recognised figure on the UK dance scene Hooky has put down his bass to craft a new mix to showcase some of the club's biggest sounds.
Containing classic cuts from A Guy Called Gerald, Fast Eddie, Phuture, Adonis and more 'Hacienda - Acid House Classics' is a double CD celebration of that legendary club.
Peter Hook is set to release his new book 'The Hacienda - How Not To Run A Club' on October 5th. The mix CD 'Hacienda - Acid House Classics' is due to hit the shops the same day.

Given that the Hacienda
Given that the Hacienda played a huge role in popularizing dance music in the UK and that Hook was there for all of it, he's as good a guy as any to put this thing together. And judging by its tracklist, this comp could be pretty definitive.
