Peggy Sue are set to release their new album 'Choir Of Echoes' early next year - listen to a preview on Clash.
'Peggy Sue' is the name of one of rock 'n' roll's earliest flames, the name of the girl who stole Buddy Holly's heart. Yet even now, more than 50 years on, she remains little more than a name, a mystery for the rock annals.
Which is where Peggy Sue come in. A London based trio, their music has the same simplicity which rippled through Buddy Holly but with an eloquence which comes from new technology, new material.
A cult property, the three piece went back into the studio earlier this year. Sealing off sessions on their new album, 'Choir Of Echoes' is set to be released through Wichita and Yep Roc in early 2014.
For now, though, fans can feast on a quick teaser. Stripped from the album, 'Idle' is a stark, hypnotic gospel tinged rant - in the band's own words: "'Idle' is about being unemployed and incurably thoughtful. The opening and closing parts are a kind of troubled gospel song - a prayer for purpose in the knowledge that the purpose will probably not be a 'good' one."
