Paul Weller Talks New Album
'Wake Up The Nation' political, he says
Iconic British songwriter Paul Weller has given fans a quick guide to his forthcoming album 'Wake Up The Nation'.
After the huge success of '22 Dreams' few fans expected Paul Weller to make a quick return. Given a BRIT award for 'Best British Male' the singer had toured almost constantly, swapping easily between classics and new material.
However Paul Weller has somehow found the time to deliver 'Wake Up The Nation' one of the most energised and straight forward collections of his career.
Eagerly anticipated by fans, Paul Weller has published a track by track guide on his website. The singer claims that 'Wake Up The Nation' is "political with a small 'p'" and contains numerous references to the Royal Family.
Referring to the track 'Find The Torch Burn The Plans' Paul Weller said: "We've got to reclaim our heritage and our culture. Claim it back from the fucking politicians and the establishment. Charles (recording engineer) played drums. My daughter and her mate sang on it too."
The first track from the album to be released online was '7 + 3 Is The Striker's Name'. Featuring My Bloody Valentine guitarist Kevin Shields, the track apparently alludes to the royal family.
"There's a dig at the royal family in the lyrics," he said. "That whole invisible establishment is still in power, nothing's changed".
Weller's former comrade in The Jam Bruce Foxton joins the singer on 'Fast Car Slow Traffic' - their first song together since 1982. "We played this on the last tour and people were really mad for it. It was really interesting to hear Bruce (Foxton) playing on it. You can instantly tell it's him."
Paul Weller is set to release 'Wake Up The Nation' on April 12th.
