Former Jam singer turned solo star Paul Weller won the ‘Best Male Solo Artist’ at last night’s (February 18th) Brit Awards at Earl’s Court, London.
From The Jam onwards, Paul Weller has dominated British music.
Through his work with The Style Council to last year’s solo album ’22 Dreams’ Weller has continually demanded the best of himself while challenging his audience’s preconceptions of what a ‘Paul Weller album’ should sound like.
Weller had been installed as the favourite to win the award after a series of suspicious bets. The odds on the singer winning were reduced from 5/1 to 1/5 before all betting on the ceremony was stopped.
Paul Weller has previously picked up the ‘Outstanding Contribution To Music’ award.
In a video link up Weller was presented his trophy by soul singer Adele. For some reason the pair couldn’t stop laughing. After composing himself Weller said “sorry I can’t be there tonight. But thank you very much for this award. Have a good night”.
Paul Weller beat off competition from Ian Brown, The Streets and Will Young to win the award.
