Paul McCartney Queen Essay Discovered
Historic essay uncovered
Sir Paul McCartney has had a pleasant blast from the past with the re-discovery of an essay he wrote about the Queen's coronation.
Sir Paul McCartney has many strings to his artistic bow. The one time Beatles bass player and songwriter has produced works of art as well as writing, with McCartney recently releasing a collection of poetry.
It seems that the songwriter's talents were apparent from an early age. A youthful Paul McCartney wrote an essay on the Queen's coronation in 1953, when he was attending Liverpool's Williams Junior School.
Long thought to be lost, the essay won a city wide competition and marks the first major artistic achievement of McCartney's career. Now fans can read the young songwriter's thoughts on the lavish occasion after researcher Ken Roach discovered the essay in the archives of Liverpool City Library.
Roach is currently working on a book about the Beatles legend. The essay reportedly states that "present day royalty rules with affection rather than force".
McCartney then concluded that: "After all this bother, many people will agree with me that it was well worth it."
Speaking to Sky News biographer Ken Roach said: "I'm not surprised that it was pro-royalist, bearing in mind attitudes of the time and because his father James was a royalist."
Sir Paul McCartney was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1997. Listen to his Beatles track 'Her Majesty' below...
