Paul McCartney New York Shows

Former Beatle to open stadium

Legendary Liverpool songwriter Sir Paul McCartney is set to open the new Citi Field stadium, the home of the New York Mets baseball team.

As a member of The Beatles Sir Paul McCartney became one of the most famous and influential musicians on the planet. After the Fab Four split McCartney took his time in choosing his next move, eventually forming the band Wings.

Sure, they might not be the most fashionable of names to drop but Wings recorded more than their fair share of belters throughout the 70s. AOR it may be, but McCartney was still capable of pulling out the odd retro rocker.

Still working and touring on a schedule that men half his age would struggle to keep up with, Sir Paul McCartney remains a lively and engaging performer. Plus, as his recent project The Fireman emphasises, the singer is still willing to challenge other people's expectations of his music.

A recent show at Coachella showed the former Beatle still had plenty of fire in his belly. Playing a lengthy set at the desert festival, McCartney drew on the full power of his back catalogue in a performance that saw him almost break down when dedicating a song to his wife Linda.

The new stadium will take the place of the New York Mets old home of Shea Stadium. The Beatles of course played one of their most iconic gigs at the stadium, with McCartney returning to close the arena as a guest of Billy Joel last year.

"To be the first to play this stadium is incredible," Sir Paul McCartney said in a statement. "I am really looking forward to a buzzing show."

Sir Paul McCartney recently appeared in public with fellow ex-Beatle Ringo Starr to launch the new game 'Rock Band: The Beatles'. Allowing users to play the band's music, it comes as The Beatles catalogue is being re-mastered to re-release later this year.

Sir Paul McCartney will play the following New York dates:

July
17 New York Citi Field
18 New York Citi Field
